In Philly? Join us on June 23rd at Philadelphia Bar & Restaurant to celebrate the conclusion of the contest! RSVP here.

What’s this open source prize all about?

At Monetate we have built our company on top of open source work - Python, Linux, Nginx, Memcache, HAProxy, MySQL, Django and Google Closure Library - just to name a few.

In recognition of that fact, we’d like to do our part to drive open source forward while supporting the Philly Tech community. Monetate is sponsoring our first ever open source developer’s prize! This prize will be awarded to either support an existing open source project, or to provide a kickstart to a new open source idea.

With this contest we hope to increase the amount and quality of open source code, help publicize the Philly area’s open source projects and developers, and to provide those developers more opportunity to work on their open source passions.

How do I know if my open source project will qualify?

New and existing projects are encouraged to enter! Any project producing source code under an Open Source Initiative approved license (http://www.opensource.org/licenses) and new projects started during the application period are eligible. The prize is available only to developers who live or work within 60 miles of Philadelphia (not all the developers on the project need to be in the Philadelphia area).

Applications will be judged on usefulness, novelty and the impact of the prize award on project status. Judges will review applications based on intangibles as well as specifically on:

  • Impact or potential impact of the project
  • Progress - quantity and quality of code
  • Project promise - what problem is the project attempting to solve?

So how will the contest work?

  1. Submit your idea by JUNE 1, 2011 11:59 PM EST. Be sure to provide the following information to be included in the contest:
